We breed Chesapeake Bay Retrievers under the kennel prefix Webfoot since 2007, having previously bred in partnership under the kennel prefix Tenarda for 30 years. We have enjoyed many achievements. Webfoot Chesapeakes concentrate on outstanding retrieving ability while also exhibiting sound, dual purpose dogs in the show ring. In 2007, homebred DUAL CHAMPION (Retrieving) Tenarda Firecracker ('Cracker') completed the AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL RETRIEVING TRIAL, being one of 8 finishers, out of 59 dogs. He was BEST MINOR BREED in the Trial. In 2008, AUSTRALIAN CHAMPION Webfoot Bear River won the DOGZONLINE NATIONAL BREED POINTSCORE Competition and also won the RISING STAR Award. In 2009 he was BEST OF BREED at QUEENSLAND ROYAL SHOW. WEBFOOT are proud to be ADVANCE® CHESAPEAKE BAY RETRIEVER BREEDER OF THE YEAR, 2009. Webfoot Chesapeakes will make devoted family companions. Growing up in the sometimes freezing weather of Maryland USA and watching the keen Chesapeake Bay Retrievers jumping into the rapid moving current of the Patuxant River to bring back the downed ducks or geese is something to be experienced. The fowl are not always killed when they are shot. It was the Chessies job to jump in the icey waters and finish the job and bring them back. Somethimes you could hear the struggle going on in the fog laden river in the early hours of the morning and you hoped your Chessie would just come back--forget the bird. They have come back with their fowl and ripped ears and torn faces or bodies from the struggle. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever just dosn't give up.

The Chessie loves to be with the family and does well with love and attention. The Chesapeake does not do well in isolation or kenneled.

My love of the Chessie dates back to living in Maryland where the breed originates. I hope to produce a intelligent and amenable dog that is a welcome family member and can hunt or do assistance work.

Caledonia Kennels recently moved to Australia from near the Platte River in Colorado USA. We are excited for the opportunity that this move has given our dogs.

Caledonia is a small kennel, but we have hunted over and trained Chessies for 26 years. During this time we have realized the value of versatility in this breed. In 1997 we entered the show and obedience ring. We feel that is important to breed a well balanced dog that can excel in multiple disciplines; this includes being part of the family. Our dogs are included in the duck blind, slumber parties and the show ring.
We test all our breeding stock for cateracts, hips and elbows and the are PRA clear by parentage.

The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a fun-loving, active water-lover. From our experience they are easy to train and become very loyal. It has been great owning Chessies, but due to our own family expanding we have reluctantly decided to only breed Labradors.
