As IVDD ( calcification of the spine) is a major hereditary problem in dachshunds, we are following the lead of Scandinavian countries, and have begun to have specific x-rays of our standard smooths to determine the calcifications in the spine. The dogs can only be x-rayed between 2 – 3 ½ years of age. These 5 x-rays per dog have been sent to Anu Lappalainen at Helsinki University in Finland, to be read. Dogs that have had their backs x-rayed will have certificates with the results and signed by either Anu Lappalinen in Finland, Vibeke Frøkjær Jensen in Denmark or Øyvind Stigen in Norway. At this stage there is no one qualified, in Australia, to read these x-rays and determine the number of calcifications.
Currently we are the only breeders in Victoria that have had our dog's x-rayed this way and have received certificates on the status of our dogs backs.

Had our first standard smooth dachshund in 1967 from Doug & Yo Batchelor of ROMALO KENNELS in South Australia. Showed Standard Smooths and Standard Longhaireds for about 15 years before moving heavily in Border Collies.

Two years ago, we were lucky enough to acquire a most gorgeous chocolate and tan bitch from Peter Mantzaris and Peter Hitchener in Victoria, Aust. Ch. Mantza Look At Me "Chocolate" and we are now "hooked" again on this delightful breed.

"Chocolate" was mated to Joyce & Kevin Taylor's, Aust.Ch. Eukypark Midnite Raider (T) in 08 and together, they produced a lovely litter, from which we have kept "Elliott", "Mantza Weekend Hussler".

She has just had another litter by Sue Packer's black & tan boy,Ch. Laen Bushranger at the end of April. 3 Chocolates and 5 black and tans, so we are looking forward to campaigning these babies under our own prefix.

We again, sincerely thank Peter Mantzaris and Peter Hitchener of "Mantza" Kennels, for giving "Tullacrest" this wonderful opportunity to begin again, with such a superbly bred and conformed bitch. We certainly have been blessed by her addition to our family.

My resulting actions and decisions were not undertaken lightly and were done in the interests of breeding with integrity and the Dachshund breed.
