We began showing Field Spaniels with our first boy Aust Gr Ch Stephdie Lord Grundig - Lord we purchased in 1990 as a small puppy from the Stephdie knls. He then took over our lives and was a part of our famil for many years to come and gave us great joy. Purchasing more Fields after a few years to begin the breeding of this lovely breed over taking our other breed the Cocker Spaniel. The Field spaniel is a medium side dog, kind, gentle noble dog and can be reserved of stangers and a easy to maintain spaniel. We breed for breed type, soundness and good temperment. All puppy enquires welcome please visit our website for more information.

Silverbirch was established in 1990 with our first Import. We have imported many dogs, mainly from the UK. We have also been fortunate enough to export as well. We believe that Hereditary testing is mandatory and to this end all breeding stock are hip and elbow scored and obtain yearly eye certificates. At Silverbirch we have bred Best in Show winners, Best in Group, Class in group and Class in Show awards too numerous to mention. We also have those that are excelling in tracking, obedience, rough shooting and scent detection work. They are also brilliant as therapy dogs and our donated Field Spaniels are working with Autistic Children in special schools. One has been awarded the Service Dog of the Year from the Field Spaniel Society of America (2006). For those wanting to know more about the breed they are a medium sized dog with an easy care coat. They are loyal companions, willing to please and definatley tuned into their owners. They do require exercise and I have some that run many kilometres per day and some that just get a walk up the street. They are simply happy being a part of your family and sharing in all things that you do. They are easy to train despite some of the things that you find written about them. They are food orientated and respond to positive reinforcement. Training needs to be well planned and not repetitious . At Silverbirch we are dedicated to the preservation of this wonderful breed for its many attributes.
