Burrawan is a small kennel in Araluen NSW. John became involved with Labradors when living in Victoria in the late 70's and the passion for the breed has continued. Dorothy became involved when we retired to Bemboka in 1998 and purchased through connections in Victoria two yellow girls, Conningsburgh Damsel and Trewintree Celeste and then our first beautiful Black Prestonvale Fairy. These girls caused our involvement in the local Kennel Clubs, Dog Shows and Training which continues to this day.

Breeder of quality Black and Yellow pedigree Labrador Retrievers. All of our dogs are from champion Australian, UK, American & Canadian bloodlines. Our aim is to breed the very best we can which is a Labrador that has a good in temperament, is physically sound and a true representation of the breed standard.
We enjoy showing our dogs and we have done extremely well over the past 20 years. Our dogs have won Labrador specialty shows across the country and we have won best of breed at the prestigious Sydney Royal Easter show. We have titled a number of Australian Champions and a Grand Champion. All of our breeding Labradors have hip & elbow clearances and we test for a range of known genetic disorders which can affect Labradors.
Our dogs and puppies are raised in a loving family environment. They are raised with our children, as part of the family. Our highly respected kennel has always maintained one very clear objective -to produce quality Labrador Retrievers. They must have good Temperament, Breed Type and Structural Soundness and above all else display that distinctive "look" which has become synonomous with Driftway.

Our Labradors live as one big happy family on 100 acres in the Hunter Valley of NSW, 2 hours north of Sydney.They have 2 kilometers of the Paterson River to swim in and lots of different types of terrain and bush to explore. We show our dogs when time permits and have been very successful, having bred more than 30 Australian Champions but first and foremost our dogs are part of our family and their happiness is more important to us than any show success.
We have been breeding our Labs since 1979 and have many generations of consistently beautiful Labs (especially beautiful faces) with great temperaments, soundness and good breed type. We have hip and elbow scored from our first litter (with excellent results) and DNA tested for PRA and EIC since the tests first became available. Our puppies are raised in the house for at least the first 6 weeks.
Some of the dogs we have bred have become Guide Dogs, Assistance Dogs and Therapy dogs and our puppies have appeared in various TV commercials, such as Kleenex ones.
We really enjoy our puppy clients keeping in touch with us and hearing of the happiness that our Labs bring to their families.

Our current top dog Grd Ch Terracarol Time Square ( Toby ) is the No1 Labrador in the country for 2009 and he is leading this years point score as well. We have a few well planned litters in the pipe line for later this year which should see Terracarol stay on top of the breed in the future.

Our dogs are competitive in the show and obedience rings and have placed well at both State and National levels. We are most proud of our service and assistance and scent detection dogs. All our breeding stock have full Certified DNA Profile covering all known Disease, and traits and colour specification are known to Labradors from Oct 2018. Our labradors play a big part of our family, they are raised in a family environment on our farm and loved by our children.They are very familiar with our farm animals and love coming with us on horse rides through the forest.
They love swimming in the dam and jumping in the creeks.
There life is one big adventure from the time they are awoken by children in the morning wanting to play ball- or trying to keep up with them when they are on there motor bikes right to dinner time when my 1 yr old is filling up there food bowls and overflowing them everywhere.
Our aim is to breed labradors that are an excellent example of there breed that would make quality family companions and are stunning in looks.
They are very social, they assume that anyone that comes around for a visit is here to see them.
We don't lock them up, they have there beds in the stable which has a doggy door in it but they much prefer the verandah or find a grassy spot under a tree for a snooze. There is always one in the sand pit digging a hole with the kids or laying there waiting.
All registered breeding labradors will be hip and elbow scored and eyes checked prior to breeding.
We sometimes have puppies available to the right home or can be put on a waiting list- all enquires welcome.
