Therapaws was born after our family welcomed and fell in love with a beautiful Labrador girl many years ago, who remains the heart of our world and the therapy dog for our child.

With the idea of producing the best quality Labradors to enrich the lives of others, Therapaws aims to breed puppies of sound health and conformation but specifically focusses on producing well socialised puppies with outstanding, well balanced temperaments. All Therapaws Labradors undergo health checks, hip and elbow scoring, DNA testing and eye health checks.

Our puppies are born and raised inside our home, resulting in them being socialised as soon as they are born to household noises and routines. Our puppies are played with by our children at 3-4 weeks of age to assist them in developing easy going, friendly temperaments. Our puppies are also introduced to our other dogs, cats, and chickens to ensure they are suitable to go to homes with other dogs and cats.

We strive to provide labradors with the most wonderful true to standard temperaments that are suitable for devoted family companions, service work, therapy work and the show ring. Once health is established we breed firstly for temperament. Before having puppies all our breeding animals are temperament assessed, full breed DNA tested and hip & elbows xrayed for soundness. We work closely with our vets and other ethical breeders.

We are registered with Dogs NSW and adhere strictly to their code of conduct. We passed our site inspection with flying colours.

Our pups are born and raised in our home. They experience household noises and happenings and are well socialised with exposure to children, dogs, cats, visitors, crates training, car rides and toilet training. We start training very early in the puppies lives along with daily cuddles. We believe puppy socialisation and training starts with the breeder and we want to give each of our pups every chance to become a stable and valued family or team member.

We start puppies in a good direction but they require ongoing training and love from their new owners. Labradors crave the company of their families and so do not cope well with extended time alone. They often bark excessively and become destructive. Nothing beats the company of a well trained and loved labrador.

We enjoy getting to know new puppy owners and we particularly enjoy news and pictures as the puppy grows.

Parents are health checked, Hip/Elbow Scored and DNA tested. Puppies are clear for EIC (Exercise Induced Collapse) and PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy). We are a small kennel based in rural south west Victoria at Macarthur between Hamilton and Pt Fairy and have been breeding since 1978.

We aim to breed quality sound all round Labradors who excel in temperament and trainability.
We much prefer a calm Labrador that has an exceptional temperament - our dogs are constantly with our young grand children and MUST have good temperaments.

We only breed 1-3 litters per year and chocolates as they 'pop' up. All our breeding stock have the appropriate clearances ie hips and elbows, genetic testing and eye certificates.

Currently at stud: please check our boys out on our website as to who is currently available at stud.

Unfortunately we can only show infrequently now due to chronic illness, but love getting out when we can.

We are pleased to announce the arrival of Cleopatra (Cleo) and Antony's litter of 9 gorgeous chocolate purebred puppies, produced from Canadian imported bloodlines, born on Sat 14 January 2023.

We are registered breeders with Dogs SA (South Australian Canine Assoc), and our registration no is 5100040428. Our puppies will be sold with pedigree papers on the Limited Register (not for showing or breeding). Both Sire and Dam have pedigree papers and are registered with Dogs SA along with having hip and elbow scores tested which are excellent. Parents are also fully DNA tested with superb results.

Our puppies are wormed regularly, have been microchipped and vaccinated, and each puppy will be well socialised with all sorts of positive stimuli so that they're able to adjust into their new homes easily, and ready to go to their new homes at 8 weeks of age by 11 March 2023.

These puppies will make beautiful companions and will also excel in any canine discipline.

We breed our Labradors for use in either detection dog or retrieve trialling roles or for guide or assistance dog roles. We have two very different lines of breeding. Our pups have extremely stable temperaments to be robust enough in their drive to tackle most dog sports whilst being handler compliant and easy to live with.
