The Foxhound is a clean cut athletic hound, with a long muzzle and wide skull. The neck is long and the hindquarters very strong. It has large eyes and the ears lay flat to the head. The short hard easy care coat is usually tri-coloured black-white-tan.
The Foxhound history goes back to the late 1700's with studbook records held by the British Masters of the Foxhounds Association. They were bred to trace a faint scent while on the run and maintain their chase for hours. Fox hunting became a sport of the wealthy and packs of hounds were cared for by the Master of the Hounds and by the late 1800's there were 140 packs registered in England.
The Foxhound is friendly with people and excellent with children, being a pack dog they get on well with other animals.
The short hard coat is easy care, a brush and comb on a regular basis and a bath when necessary. It is an avid sniffer and trailer, it needs daily exercise in a safe area.
There are no major concerns.
