Kate is where it all began. She was our first beardie and the reason we have all the others. She was never shown, which is why she is in current dogs, but she had one litter which gave us our beautiful Holly and so all the ones who followed. Kate came to us when she was 9 months old, we were her second home, she came with many issues but gave us great joy. She had been locked in a back garden all her life, until she came to us, where she was able to come into the house and be a part of the family. She always wanted to please. Her favourite past time was to run up and down the garden barking, which is why we moved to 5 acres when she was 3. It was one thing we really could not stop her from doing. We lived next to an 80 acre paddock which sometimes had very large cattle on it. Before we had garden fences (the property was fenced) she was able to wiggle through the wire and herd these cattle, which were 10 times or more her size. She would bring them to our side fence then run barking between them to scatter so she could round them up again. Naturally she was not allowed to do this so did not get to do it often but if she got out that is where she would be and she usually came back green! It is a shame there were no herding tests and titles in those days. She was a very gentle soul and left us in Feb 1998, a year before we left that home she loved so much. We can now see some of her traites in her great, great grand daughter, Bronte, so she is still with us in some ways.
