Both Biffy and Thunder each won State Field Trial Championships.This trial work is the most demanding of all the gundogs, working in competition against all of the utility gundogs (land and water dogs ) hunting naturally on Australian game during "the open game season" finishing with a demanding water retrieve equal to an all age retrieving trial. Only the best dogs get through a trial, let alone win outright: This competitive hunting work paved the way for the German Wirehaired Pointers in Australia.
The dogs gave Geoff and Pieter many good years of hunting feathers, fur, and deer in all parts of Australia, some weekends they hunted the lot. It took many more years for other hunters to recognise the ability of the wirehaired pointers to work our game, and now GWP's are hunting in all Australian States on most types of game.
Our breed now maintains itself in the top of the "field working gundogs" both here and our exports overseas, and this should give new hunters the same pleasures that we still get with the dogs.
