Judge Profile

My love of the Labrador Retriever started as far back as I can remember, Schroeder, our first black male Labrador Retriever (Warrander) was born a month before me. He and I grew up as best buddies. In my late teens and early 20s I dabbled with other breeds, including a beautiful German Shepherd (Alderhaus), Winnie, along with a rescued Afghan Hound and her mate a bitzer.

Shortly before Richard and I got married were asked to look after a 9 month old yellow male Labrador Retriever, Monty (RT Ch Moralana Pattons Monty), by my godmother as she had girls and they were coming into season and Monty was just not coping and was being a typical young male. He came and he never left until he died at 13 years old. Monty introduced us to retrieving and it wasn't long before we were completely involved, competing (well trying to) and Richard became a Retrieving Trial Judge.

There we met a number of great people including Mike and Glen McClure and Tony and Julie Cartwright of Blackboy Kennels. They encouraged me to get a black girl and to try conformation showing, I was hooked and titling my girl (Ch Blackboy Etched in Ebony) was the best feeling. She left us way too soon dying from mast cell cancer. Since then I have been privileged to own and show many beautiful Labrador Retrievers. We got our prefix, Courtsum, and our first litter was born in 1996, what a learning experience that was, we had to handrear 10 puppies!

It took time but I decided to enter the Judges Training Scheme and passed my practical for group 3 in November 2022 and commenced training for Group 7 in 2023.

I look forward to meeting and judging many beautiful dogs as I progress through the scheme.
