AmigoReal is an Accredited Long Coat Chihuahua kennel in Christchurch, New Zealand. Taking into account the origin of the Chihuahua breed, “Amigo Real” translates as “Royal Friend” in Spanish.
As an Accredited Breeder, we health test for Eyes, Heart and Patellas, which is mandatory for this breed under the Accredited Breeders scheme. At AmigoReal, we go one step further and are currently the only breeder for Chihuahuas in New Zealand testing for Hip Dysplasia, Legg-Calve-Perthes, and Thyroid (T4), which we started doing in 2020. We also DNA test our Chihuahuas with Embark, who check for 206+ Genetic Conditions: 5 Breed-Relevant Genetic Conditions and 201+ Additional Genetic Conditions which includes Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). As you can see, we stop at nothing to ensure that our Chihuahuas meet only the highest standards.

Kitaco Kennels owned by Dr Tracey Tonkin BVSc(Hons) is the original Dogs NZ Accredited Chihuahua Breeder in NZ.
We breed for health, soundness, great temperaments & breed type with excellent confirmation. Our dogs are DNA screened for known genetic issues, heart, eye and patella problems, hip scored & bred above and beyond the requirements of the Dogs NZ Accredited Breeders Scheme. Our dogs are also currently part of a La Trobe University long term study tracking the correlation between breeder practices and puppy development.
Our dogs are known for their excellent breed type and outstanding temperaments and have been used for professional stage and photography work.
We export both dogs and semen from NZ. We can arrange all transport and veterinary certifications for Australia, Asia, Europe & the US.

Through importing a substantial number of quality dogs, we are able to selectively breed from pedigrees of top kennels worldwide. In fact, we have imported the most new lines into New Zealand and currently have 7 imported dogs in our kennel, including 1 from Bramver's in Japan, 5 from Cheekychi in Australia, and 1 from Countrychi in Australia. We are wholeheartedly dedicated to continually improving our lines and the breed as a whole and actively collaborate with like minded breeders who share our vision.

Heathcote Kennels are breeding and exhibitors of Germam Shepherd and Long Coat Chihuahuas. Our Chihuahua are raised in a family home and are well socialised with children. We pride ourselves in breeding well balanced, true to standard German Shepherd & Chihuahua
