We believe in the improvement of the German Shepherd and do not breed for 'the supply & demand' market - hence our very infrequent litters.

Hugh Garvican was the founder of Leberhine and a 'life member' of the German Shepherd Dog Club of South Australia, a Breed Surveyor and an ANKC group 5 judge. Hugh was my father and his legacy to Robert and I is his love for the German Shepherd and their improvement.

Though we owned a Gold Medal winner 1976 (Ch Tandina Mollie) and bred/own a Silver Medal winner 2016 (Ch Leberhine Umeeko) and have owned/bred dogs/bitches gaining first in all classes excepting Open in a GSDCA National, we still believe our greatest achievement is providing quality pups who become a major part of a family!

All our dogs are part of our family. Their outstanding character and temperament are transparent in their progeny.

Gewalt Kennels are based in the Adelaide Hills. We have a small number of top quality, select animals. Our dogs are a major part of our family, and interact daily with our children and each other. They have a couple of acres in which to run and play, and it's a race each morning for the dogs to get out of the house yard and into their 'play' areas.

All of our adult dogs (ie any of our dogs used in our breeding program) have passed any and all possible breed specific health and genetic testing available, be it compulsory or optional. We breed registered purebred dogs, each of whom has a pedigree that goes back many generations. Our puppies and dogs are family first, show and breeding dogs second. They DO NOT live in kennels, but in our home. As a registered ANKC breeder, we abide by a code of ethics and are answerable for our dogs' health and welfare.

We occasionally have puppies or older dogs available, with the emphasis being on sound, healthy, family friendly dogs.

Although we are a small kennel, we have owned and bred german shepherd dogs for many years. Our aim is to produce dogs of good quality and type with excellent temperaments.

We are members of DogsSA and the German Shepherd Dog Club of SA and adhere to their Codes of Ethics and Recommended Breeding Practices.

All our breeding animals have successfully been through the GSDC Hip and Elbow and Breed Survey Schemes.

As well as being ideal companions our dogs have successfully competed in Conformation Shows, Obedience and Agility Trials.

We are a small family kennel breeding quality family pets, obedience and show dogs, with a focus on temperament and soundness.

Our passion for breeding began with our beloved Tilly (Leppsdorf Tilly). She is our family pet and introduced us to the show and breeding world. Our drive to breed family-friendly, sound dogs who are companions first came from how quickly she became a part of our family. We are now located on a farm in the McLaren Vale region where we continue our passion.
We occasionally have older dogs available for loving homes.

Our puppies go home after 8 weeks of age and are wormed, health checked, microchipped and had their 1st vaccination. The puppies come with a substantial puppy pack food, a health guarantee and 6 weeks of free Petcover insurance.
