History
Temperament
This handsome, upstanding tri-coloured hound has won the admiration and hearts of many. His temperament is sweet and gentle and fits well into family life. They thrive in a family environment and crave companionship, and make excellent housedogs prefering the fireside to any outdoor kennel. They are an excellent dog to bring children up with, as they are full of fun, while being very patient. They will be the best friend any child could grow up with, and the best child you would ever dream of.
Care / Grooming
They are a low maintenance breed, the short coat needing little more than a regular brushing and bathing. They have a thick undercoat, and when they go through a malt, a daily rub down with a hound glove can help speed things along.
Being a dog bred to hunt they are inclined to wonder if not under supervision, so good fencing is essential. Regular exercise is a must, but remember they are a scent hound so care should be taken when off lead. Once off on a scent they will hunt for hours so lead walking is a must. They mix well with other dogs and are not an aggressive breed.
Health
The are a very straight-forward breed, not suffering from the hereditary faults of many breeds.
