Yakka came to us as a tiny little fellow who had not had a smooth start to life. He developed into a strong, determined young dog, destined to make his mark on the future of Deerhounds and to state his place well and truly in the showring with his aloof and haughty manner.

A multiple Best of Breed winner, Yakka gained his title at 13 months. He won five Best Puppy in Group, four Best Junior in Group, 5 Best Intermediate in Group and Best Australian Bred in Group once. He was Best Runner-up in Group four times and Best in Group. He won Best Puppy in Show, Best Junior in Show twice and Best Intermediate in Show twice.

He was Reserve Challenge winner at Adelaide Royal Show in 2004 and Best of Breed at Adelaide Royal Show in 2005. He was then Best of Breed winner at Melbourne Royal Show in 2005. Yakka was Deerhound of the Year in 2004 and 2005 (Deerhound Club of Victoria Pointscore).

Sadly, Yakka was taken from us way too young, when he was well on the way to gaining his deserved Grand Champion title. He left us with a wonderful legacy in his son Aust Ch Mapleridge Gorgus George and daughter Mapleridge Gorgus Gracie, from our lovely bitch Mapleridge Fable Queen. George is especially carrying on his father's tradition.
