Appearance

For the general public they are like a miniature "Lassie" only standing approx 14 to 15 inches at the shoulder. Their colours are sable (from pale gold through to shaded sable), Tricolour (predominately black body colour) - Blue merle ( a silver blue with black marbling through the blue coat).

History

Originated in Shetland Isles to help the farmers look after and guard their stock and help guard the homestead. The conditions were harsh and these dogs had to be very sturdy little dogs.

Temperament

They are very loyal and loving to their families. Are very good with children..They get on well with other dogs and cats..They can be reserved to strangers and are good watchdogs..Their intelligence makes them easy to train.

Care / Grooming

They have a double coat..The harsh outer coat repels water and dirt and makes them quite an easy little dog to maintain. A 15 to 20 minute grooming once a week is all that is needed. If they are dropping coat then they may need a little more grooming to brush the undercoat out so this does not matt and become a problem.

Health

They have very few health problems. Using a flea control product will prevent any skin allergies occurring.
