Sometimes you get a dog who embodies the full spirit of what you're looking for! Not a mythical perfect dog, but one who’s essence just aligns with you. To me that dog was Spirit.
Spirit’s life was a roller coaster ... a show ring natural, she would have done much better with a different handler. She did pretty good anyway with enough group wins to ensure me I was not being too ‘own dog blind’.
At 11 months old she cost me my first huge vet bill. I was away with son dog sitting. She went out through the cat flap breaking it and window as she went. Cat flap was caught around her body with her left leg caught in it. Son phoned me in panic as he could not fond her but had seen blood. I got him to send the other dogs out and THEY found her. She received over 30 stitches in her front left leg (yep, show side). We spend 12 weeks going to physio after that to try to ensure no scare tissue. Shortly after she had the stitches removed she gained her show CH and the following week her field title (QC) and won her second field trial.
She hunted pheasant, rabbits and possum if allowed. Whenever she saw water she was in and swimming - even better if there were ducks to swim after!
Spirit charmed people wherever she went: shows, pet expos, just at the park or the beach! She assumed it was her right to sit on anyone and everyones lap and managed to get on TV doing this one pet expo!
She has a legacy of three beautiful litters and her daughter (F’lix) and granddaughter (Poppy) continue it in my house.
I hope the rainbow bridge has a plethora of birds and bunnies!!
