Supreme and Neut Ch Markwell Rising Star
Tinsel (so named as she was born on Christmas Day) came to me when she was just over a year old, already well on her way to being a champion. After consistently winning in her breed and classes in group, she acquired a Runner Up to Best in Show at 18 months of age. Since then she has been slowly maturing, winning to date 11 x Best in Groups, 3 x Runner Up to Best in Show and 1 x Best in Show, all at All Breeds championship show level.
Her biggest win to date was being awarded 'Supreme Winner' at the Northern Territory's 'Battle of the Greats' in July 09. The judges for this event were Diane Haseldine (SA), Rosemary Hubrich (NZ and Gwen Johnston (NZ). Gwen Johnston was quoted as saying ‘As I have been involved with dachshunds for many years, it was great to see such a good example with a lovely head and expression, good reach of neck, a good sound body and she moved across the ground well. She was very ably handled by Robert Manning’.
However despite all her wins, Tinsel biggest challenge was recovering from mutiple western brown snake bites in May. Her recovery was due to immediate attention, a vet close by, good care and a dead snake to take in for identification.
But the 'plucky Tinsel' (as referred to in The Australian newspaper) was back in the show ring two weeks later winning yet again a Best in Group.
