My personal history includes many hours spent in the paddock 'rough shooting'. It is in the 'field' that the value of a well bred, well trained Labrador Retriever is truly appreciated. It is here that natural instinct and work ethic intersect and bring great enjoyment to both dog and handler.

I compete in the sport of Retrieving Trials. Subsequently Cascott kennels have produced a number of dogs who are competitive in this sport. We have embraced a vigorous breeding program utilizing some of the best working lines available throughout Australia, NZ and Europe.

Dogs from Cascott Kennels tend to have a more athletic conformation and by nature are easily trained and live 'to please' their owner. Due to their calm disposition many pups from our litters have been incorporated into 'support programs' and they make great family pets.

We take the health of our Labradors and any potential breeding stock extremely seriously. All our Labradors have all the usual DNA health checks in an attempt to eliminate hereditary diseases and all our dogs have the necessary hip and elbow x-rays and scores.

'Dana' Kennels established in 1974 started off with one working gundog and has grown from there in the early days we had a 7 acre lake on our farm ideal for Labradors. Over the years we have used imported bloodlines and shown our dogs to Championship level and beyond as well as maintaining the inherent working ability. We have had our dogs in the Kiwi recovery program, used by the Blind foundation, drug detection and working Gundogs as well as the loyal family companion to many families some of whom have had 3 of our Labradors over the years. We were fortunate that in the early years of showing and breeding to have help and advice from one of the greats of the Labrador World in Nell and Tom Jobey of Te Reinga Kennels. We were one of the first Kennels to do the hip and elbow testing in NZ and have carried on to do all the tests we can to continue to breed sound happy Labrador puppies that confirm to the standard of broad and strong. Puppies sometimes available to approved homes.

Margembie Labradors was established in 2004.

Our dogs are first & foremost our treasured family pets. They are our family dogs, & they, along with their puppies, are socialised & grow up on our 4 acres with our children aged 10, 8, & 6 years old.
Our children adore them as much as we do.

Not only do our lovable Labs make excellent companions, but they are also proven gun & assistance dogs.

We are a small kennel breeding for temperament and working ability.

Both Kate and I are actively involved in the dog world as retrieving trial competitors and judges of retrieving trials to Championship level and retrieving ability tests.

We have been actively breeding Labrador Retrievers for over 20 years. Many of our dogs and bitches have fifteen or more generations of selection for game drive, prey drive and biddability.

Our dogs and bitches are used widely in retrieving, obedience and tracking trials. We are also working with an organisation in breeding and training dogs for service and therapy for people with a wide range of disabilities. These dogs are trained for autism therapy, epilepsy alert, aspergers syndrome therapy, post traumatic stress disorder therapy, age home service, legal court service, alziemers disease service and diabetes alert dogs..

All of our breeding dogs and bitches are tested for hip dysplasia and OCD and we aim to breed pups with hip and elbow scores better than the breed average. All of our breeding dogs and bitches are genetically profiled for the full range of diseases and traits for which genetic markers are available for the Labrador Retriever breed.

I have been involved in breeding, showing and trialling dogs since 1974. I have obtained numerous Show, Tracking, Obedience and Rally O Titles as well as competing successfully in Retrieving Trials, gaining the Novice Retrieving Dog Title in 2016 with my lovely girl "Sky" (Ch. T.Ch. RO.Ch. Dewick Touchof Vanilla CDX RAE NRD NRA and Retrieving Ability Tests for Gundogs. Since 2006 I have been a qualified judge to judge all levels of tracking trials and in 2009 I obtained my Track and Search judging licence. I have owned, trained, handled and bred 5 dogs to their Tracking Champion titles as well as training another dog to his tracking champion title for his owner. In 2014 I obtained my licence to judge Retrieving Ability Tests for Gundogs. I was awarded Life Membership of Metropolitan Dog Obedience Club in 1993. I will be continuing to show, trial and judge into the future.

Our labradors play a big part of our family, they are raised in a family environment on our farm and loved by our children.They are very familiar with our farm animals and love coming with us on horse rides through the forest.
They love swimming in the dam and jumping in the creeks.
There life is one big adventure from the time they are awoken by children in the morning wanting to play ball- or trying to keep up with them when they are on there motor bikes right to dinner time when my 1 yr old is filling up there food bowls and overflowing them everywhere.
Our aim is to breed labradors that are an excellent example of there breed that would make quality family companions and are stunning in looks.
They are very social, they assume that anyone that comes around for a visit is here to see them.
We don't lock them up, they have there beds in the stable which has a doggy door in it but they much prefer the verandah or find a grassy spot under a tree for a snooze. There is always one in the sand pit digging a hole with the kids or laying there waiting.
All registered breeding labradors will be hip and elbow scored and eyes checked prior to breeding.

We sometimes have puppies available to the right home or can be put on a waiting list- all enquires welcome.

I first started out in Labradors in 1987 with a wonderful black male puppy Luhana Crown Jewel, who was purchased from the Davis’s. He was from one of Australia’s most influential sires, Aust Ch Driftway Statesman, from the world famous Driftway kennels owned by Mr Guy Spagnolo.
