Our early foundation dogs came from the UK and German imports from NZ,Ostoja (Geoff Oakes) hunted,trained,and trialed the first Dual Champion German Wirehaired Pointer in Australia in 1983, paving the way for future working Gwp's: The kennels going on to produce 25 Aust Champions,Three Field titles & 4 Obedience titles to CDX,from the original imp lines.

Recent imports from the UK with strong working lines continues to establish Ostoja as one of Australia,s leading kennels, supplying the dedicated hunting sportsmen both here and overseas with outstanding working stock. The first GWP,s bred in Australia to obtain field trial titles came from Ostoja,these lines have been dominant workers,hunting in all terain over three decades,and continue today working on all types of game.

To ensure our breed types and confirmation are correct,Ostoja exhibits in recognised showrings,including Royals,as can be seen by the young stock that have obtained their Australian show Champion titles,some are shown here on this web site.Our latest progeny by the import dog "Baron" out of our working bred bitches,youngsters with strong natural instincts,correct harsh wiry coats for in the field and in the showring, give owners great confidence that our lines work their hunting scene (and can also be shown) as well today as ever,and our lines are now recognised as outstanding working utility gundogs and as loyal companions.

Domeir aim to produce German Wirehaired Pointers not only with Proven working ability but correct type and temperement. 2007 saw Bastyn gain his Tracking Champion making him a Dual Champion.Track six being graded as Very Good. Rhu Bastyn's mother also started tracking and passed Track Four with Very Good.Not bad for a 9 year old hunting dog . Whistlewire is a small but select kennel showing and breeding German Wirehaired Pointers (GWP). If you are interested in know more about our dogs or our breeding plans please phone me in the first instance.

Please note; we may not be able to assist with transportation to some States due to the COVID 19 virus restrictions which maybe in place at that time.

We only keep a small number of quality dogs, all of which are from the finest imported bloodlines for temperament and behaviour.

Our dogs are raised in a loving environment and are members of our family - not just dogs.

All our dogs are health tested and have had their hip and elbow scoring done with excellent results. They have also been DNA profiled by Orivet Genetic Pet Care and their information uploaded into the national health database.

Our puppies are raised within the home and socialised and we undertake DNA parentage testing of pups as required for registraion by Dogs Qld. This guarantees new owners the pups they are getting are from parentage on the pedigree – Dam and Sire.

I have owned, breed, competed and hunted with German Wirehaired pointers in Western Australia for the last 30 years.
Our wirehairs have competed in the show ring, retrieving and field trials and have always done exceptionally well in all aspects as expected of a true utility dog.
I am a strong believer that like our European counterparts that dogs should perform well in both show and hunting.
They have been close family members, and generally travel with us 24/7, and are great house dogs.
They have a very much bullet proof loving temperament and are willing to please in every aspect of their work (most of the time).
As I am an open field trial judge for both pointers and setters and utility dogs and starting my retrieving license this year, I expect an extremely high working standard for my own dogs.

As I translated the FCI standard(European Standard) and had it adopted as the Australian standard, my aim for type, look, working ability and temperament is as close to the German standard as I can.

The German wirehaired pointer is a versatile working gun dog of noble appearance they have a harsh coat completely protecting there skin, with an attentive expression full of energy, there movement should be powerful, ground covering, flowing and harmonious.
Temperament should be Firm, self controlled, well balanced with out shy of game, neither sensitive when shots are fired nor shy or aggressive
Our sire is a full German imported dog he is black roan with patches, strong, biddable and well mannered intelligent stud dog with exceptional European hunting lines.

Our Heidi is sweet and kind and loves nothing more than to hunt, she has been hunted on all our game species and is proving to be a fantastic allrounder this quality is exactly what we are wanting in our dogs, and when its time to switch off she in in the house on her bed part of the family.
She also is of exceptional breeding and has a fantastic true wirehair coat with solid strong bone confirmation.
