I discovered the Portuguese Podengos back in Finland in 1997, when I first saw them at an all breeds show. I was lucky enough to own two from the kennel Tahtitaivaan, before moving overseas. Finally, in 2010 I imported the very first Portuguese Podengo Pequeno into Australia, and established the breed here. INT Ch FIN Ch EST Ch Tahtitaivaan Emmi arrived in whelp, and three of the six puppies helped establish other breeding programs in Queensland and New South Wales.

In 2015 I imported my second Podengo from Finland, Tahtitaivaan Choco, also in whelp, to the top winning European dog, Portuguese Grand Champion Zorro Da Praia Do Ribatejo. This litter was used as a foundation to help establish a collaborative breeding program with the Westengo Portuguese Podengo kennel in Perth, WA. Already, we have had some fantastic puppies with the help of frozen semen imported from Finland.

This breed truly melts your heart, you can't possibly have a bad day when you own a podengo, they simply won't let you! They are energetic, yet cuddly, small, but have the stamina of a hound. A truly versatile small dog, they are suitable for Rally-O, tracking, lure coursing, the show ring, or as the best family pet. We are looking forward to seeing what the future holds for this breed in Australia

I fell in love with this breed several years ago when I was introduced by the lady who is responsible for bringing the first Portuguese Podengo to Australia.

This versatile breed excels at pretty much anything they try. They are smart, sweet little dogs with a great sense of humour. They never really take anything too seriously & lighten even the darkest of days with their joyful antics.

Alarves Podengos have been successful in the show ring all over Australia: Winning Best Of Breed at Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne Royal Shows for seven years in a row. Winning Best Of Breed at Sydney Royal with the largest entry of 17 Podengos and awarded Junior in the Hound Group at the 2017 Royal Queensland Show.

Alarves Podengos are proud to have bred the only Podengo in Australia to have been awarded Best In Group (Group 1st) and Runner Up to Best In Show (BIS 2nd).

Alarves Podengos also compete successfully in other dogs sports such as Obedience, Agility, Scentwork and Lure Coursing both here in Australia and in New Zealand. Alarves are proud to have bred the only Podengos in Australia to gain their lure coursing titles of Coursing Ability to Coursing Ability Excellent.

The ideal companion to sleep at your feet or share your days with.

The Portuguese Podengo was introduced into the Ballahond Kennels in 2010. Quality and soundness is foremost when considering this small, active and intelligent breed. Ballahond has promoted these attributes and gained success in the show and dog sports with titles in conformation Showing, Rally Obedience, and Earthdog trials.

Over 20 years of breeding, showing and grooming experience with cairn terriers. The prefix was Banmhor.

Got two sisters from Sleykh Kennels 2016 and 2017. I was trying to find a small breed that didn't have the coat maintenance as the cairn. I'm won over!
We bred the first litter in WA in 2018 under the Sleykh prefix.

The mission is to promote and show others how incredible a Podengo is, the perfect little companion. One POD will lead to two!

Although I didn't import the first small smooth Podengo to Australia, I have imported seven. Four from their Homeland, Portugal. And two are American Champions, one of who was the Winner's Dog at the PPP of America National Specialty, the first official AKC National Show for Podengos
I am the owner of the only Podengo to hold the title of International Beauty Champion (CIB). He is the first dog of any breed in NSW to gain his CIB title using a CACIB won here in Australia
I am the breeder of the first Australian Grand Champion Podengo (SSH) in Australia
I am the only Breeder/Owner to have gained Australian Championship titles only using those Challenge Certificates won against competition when their titles were applied for, for three dogs, Francis, Edward and Mr Tyson. In fact, Edward never won a six point challenge, as all of his were won against strong competition
