We are a small breeder of Irish style soft coated wheatens using only the best imported lines to produce healthy dogs for home and the show ring. All of our imported dogs are of the Irish type and come from healthy European, American, Canadian, British, and Irish Champion lines. Our focus is on health. All dogs are health tested and our breeding stock and their lines have tested clear from the hereditary issues that plague some lines. All our dogs are DNA banked. Our sires are tested clear for PLN.

Having only a litter every other year our wait list is extensive, but please contact us for more information on puppy availability. We are taking names for our December litter now!

We were foundation members of Australia's first Affiliated Wheaten breed club. The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Breed Club of NSW Incorporated.

We are a small kennel striving to breed beautiful,happy, healthy Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers with silky Irish coats by our imported dogs of all Irish or English/Irish lines. Our Wheatens are our pets, our companions and our friends. We have imported Wheatens of healthy lines with good conformation and temperament and lovely silky shiny Irish coats. Our dogs are health tested and thier DNA profile stored for later testing, they are free of the PLN carrier gene. We aim to maintain the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier to the Standard of the country of origin of the breed, Ireland. We only breed on average once a year or so and Gilly produce eleven puppies last June so it will be awhile before we have another litter. It is fun to see our dogs breeding on and two Jake/ Gilly daughters have had litters of their own, the most recent being Epyck who had eleven puppies in January 2017. Puppies are sometimes available - your enquiries are most welcome. We just love to talk about our Wheatens.

Celebrating > 20 yrs of natural feeding, 50+ yrs of purebred dogs.
We chose Soft Coated Wheatens for temperament, low odour & low allergy appeal after 30 yrs of Boxers. They help with reading in schools, have consistent success at Shows & love to be trained. Margaret regularly travels to Europe to source frozen semen from; a great opportunity to catch up on the latest on grooming tips too.

Our breeding program health tests as per recommendations of Int. Breed Clubs, of which Margaret is a member. All dogs are clear of the DNA PLN gene variant which has been linked to kidney issues within the breed.
Being retired our dogs have 24/7 care. Whilst show pups are available, we breed for families. Occasionally mature dogs are available.
Late weaned, raised in the home on natural food, by 8 wks pups have started manners, toilet & chew-toy training & enjoy the adventure playground.
A qualified, rewards based trainer Margaret’s commitment is evidenced by involvement with the Dogs Victoria Education Committee and regular attendance at trainer seminars.

Our aim is to breed the best possible happy good natured wheatens that we can,-best of temperament,good conformation,healthy pedigree,correct Irish coats,supported by health/genetic testing.

Health testing includes OFA/AVA testing hips/elbows,examination of eyes,bloods/urine/renal U/S to check/avoid relevant kidney disease that can rarely come in the breed.We do not breed ANY dogs that carry PLN variant gene due to the real risk to puppies of developing PLN from having even one copy of the gene.

Having a biomedical background,keeping on top of genetic studies and how such is related to health has been part of my work for 25years and I have enjoyed bringing that background into our breeding program.

Broomsquires is one of the oldest kennel prefix for Staffordshire Bull Terriers in Australia, it was first registered in the UK by John and Eileen Sheward, then registered here by them. Graeme and myself took it as ours and we have used for our Staffords and now our Wheatens, which were formally under our Bilstonwake Irish Terrier prefix.
Broomsquires has had other breeds in the past but is firstly a terrier kennel. We first started breeding in 1966 with Staffords and were involved with Boxers and Afghans with my parents.
With all the breeds we have owned and bred, the importance is and has been always to focus on Type, Temperament, and aim to breed healthy dogs. We are happy to talk anytime about the breed or breeds we have had in the past.

Sydney home of the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. Beginning in 2006, Druidsglen breeds Wheatens with emphasis on health, temperament and genetic diversity. We breed the American style of Soft Coated Wheaten from our home in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

We spare no expense in breeding healthy Wheaten Terriers with outstanding temperament. This leads to the consistent positive feedback we receive from puppy homes all over Australia. We breed the temperaments we like: steady, playful, connected, biddable and suited to suburban life. Our continued investment in new imported genetics reflects our devotion to the breed.

Prior to being considered for breeding, our dogs are hip and elbow scored, eye tested and full blood and urinalysis done. All Alinex breeding dogs are PLN clear, and vet certified; health status updated prior to every breeding.

We work from home and our puppies are raised in our living room, with constant love and attention.

We regularly show our dogs and put them forward for appraisal by local and international judges. We love the art of bringing together temperament, health and conformation to breed Wheatens that live up to their best reputation.

We have had over 35 years experience in breeding and showing both dogs and stud Suffolk sheep and have always striven to breed the best stock possible. Improving genetics is our passion.

Temperament is paramount along with healthy, happy and structurally sound dogs.

"ZaZa" Ch Silktrader Strike A Pose (Imp NZ) is our foundation bitch and is health tested annually, PLN & PNE clear, hip & elbow dysplasia scored, eye tested and has a complete DNA profile. We are planning for ZaZa to have a litter later this year.

"Maizie" Ch Elsomwheat Silk of Maizie has had all her health checks and is PLN & PNE clear, has excellent hip & elbow dysplasia scores and eye test results are excellent. Maizie has just had her first litter and is proving to be a wonderful mother, however, we only had 4 puppies so these have all been allocated to families who have had or have a Wheaten.

Our dogs live in our home and receive only the best care. Puppies are registered with Dogs SA, socialised, health checked, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and come with a full information kit.

We purchased our very first Wheaten in 2009 and have been breeding since 2011.

I have been part of Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier breeding for over 12 years (2007)! I co-ran Dangul Kennels since 2016 and prior to that I have been helping out for the Betandy Kennels. I have been breeding pure-bred Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers for as long as I was looking after them, so have much experience with their traits, temperaments and natures. I also have pedigrees tracing back to generations to know as far of each of my Wheaten's heritage as possible.

I am in love with the breed as they truly remind me of human counterparts, in a dog's form. They read and understand our emotions, and love our attention. I breed pure Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers to result in puppies with good temperaments, playful and nurturing natures, healthy and genetically-evaluated for disease-free-carrying genotypes (PLN (protein losing nephropathy) gene and RD (renal dysplasia) gene-linked to kidney disease free, as well as tested for hip dysplasia). They are raised in home-loved conditions until they are set to flight (or picked-up) to their new homes.
