I commenced showing in 1980 with German Shorthaired Pointers, I continued in this breed until the late 1990's. I also owned and showed a Labrador Retriever. In 1985 I got my first Flatcoated Retriever, pioneered flatcoats in the show ring in SA and have stayed with this breed. I competed in Retrieving Trials with all three breeds - giving me a good understanding of why soundness is so essential. I handled both a German Shorthaired Pointer and a Flatcoated Retrievers to 1st place wins in Restricted trials as many Novice wins. I have handled Golden Retrievers and Cocker Spaniels - and currently exhibit one Flatcoated Retrievers.
To improve the gene pool in Flatcoated Retrievers I have imported two bitches and one dog, and frozen semen from two dogs. My flatcoated Retrievers have taken out Royal Challenges at all Royal Shows except Tasmania. A bitch I sent to WA is a Best in Show at a Royal Show, and a bitch I sent to NSW is an All Breeds Best in Show winner. Five Flatcoat breeders have dogs from me.
I have judged a Gundog Group in South Australia. A Weimaraner Specialty and German Shorthaired Pointer Specialty in Victoria. my Best in Show GSP taking out Best in Group at Melbourne Royal a week later, a German Shorthaired Pointer Specialty and a Labrador Specialty in Western Australia.
I gained my Group 2 Licence in October 2012, and judged this group in SA in September 2013 and 2022. In October 2013, I was part of an International panel of judges at the Tauranga Kennel Assn two days show in New Zealand - judging Puppy Sweepstakes, Terriers, and Gundogs - what a thrill when my Best in Group Gundog winner went Best in Show under Cecilia Lindstrom from Canada.
In January 2015 I judged Group 2 and the Puppy Stakes at the Nelson District Kennel Assn and the Gundog Championship Show for the Tasman District Gundog Society on the South Island of New Zealand, this again with a lovely panel of International judges and a judge from New South Wales.
