Hi, I’m Maeve Robbins-Koomen and I’m so proud to be part of a family that has been involved in pedigree dogs for generations. Dogs have always been a huge part of my life, so showing and handling feels really natural to me. I was honoured to be recognised as the 2024 Best Newcomer Australian Junior Handler, and it has made me even more excited to keep learning and improving.

My mum is Natalie Robbins from TOBANA BOXERS and PICCINO ITALIAN GREYHOUNDS, so I’ve grown up around beautiful dogs, grooming tables, leads, crates, and show weekends. From her, I’ve learned how much hard work, care, and dedication goes into presenting dogs properly and always putting their wellbeing first.

My grandparents are Wally Robbins and Robyn Robbins. My Pop was a professional handler of some of the great Boxer imports that came to Australia in the 1960s and 1970s, and later became a judge and steward. My Nan is known for handling the world famous CH Tobana August Queen and for helping run lots of all breeds and specialty clubs over many years. Their knowledge and love for the sport inspire me so much.

My family’s history goes back even further too. My great grandfather bred Greyhounds, and my great aunt and uncle, Wyn Wilcox and Kevin Wilcox, showed German Shepherd Dogs. I’m also proud to acknowledge my relative Kevin Walshaw, who is regarded as the grandfather of Gundogs and Field Trialling in Australia and is an ANKC Hall of Fame inductee. It’s amazing to know my family has contributed to so many different parts of the dog world.

Right now, I’m having the best time showing Gerard, who we call Gerry at home. He’s such a fun dog to handle, and together we’ve already won multiple Class in Group and Class in Show awards. I love being in the ring with him and trying my best every time we go out there.

For me, junior handling isn’t just about winning. It’s about learning, improving, respecting the dogs, and enjoying every moment. I know I still have so much to learn, but I’m really proud of where I’ve come from and excited for what’s ahead.

Please come and say hello at the next show! M Xx
