A small, home-based kennel aiming to breed sound, happy smooth collies with a love of life and correct conformation, though rough collies are also expected from time to time They are also bred with other dog sports in mind, for example herding and obedience, although the smooth collie is suitable also for tracking and agility or just enjoyed as an adorable family companion.
We have been involved with the breed since 2008 beginning with the smooth collie Ch. Jencol Swing Ona Star PT “Nessa”. This young lady has been a great introduction to the breed and we now have her in our hearts and haven’t looked back!
We had our first litter of Border terriers, our first breed, in January of 2010, and Nessa was a fantastic nanny to them and still mothers “Casey” the pup we kept!
Our first litter of collies was born in February 2012 and we have now a very lovable boy in the mix. "Ryder" or Wiru Let It Ride is an enthusiatic part of family, eager to make his entry into the world of showing.

My goal is to showcase the Smooth Collie's suitability as family companions and biddable working dogs. In more recent history with the intervention of modern day family life, Collie breeding has strayed away from their working dog heritage. Whilst the breeds intelligence and athleticism is undeniable, that latent herding instinct can be tricky to uncover and shape into useful and appropriate herding skills. Remember - chasing and circling is not herding.
For me, a dog is suitable for breeding when it demonstrates that it is sound in conformation, temperament and working aptitude.
My dogs are involved in Herding and Conformation showing, as well as occasionally participating in Tracking, Rally Obedience, Obedience and Scent Work.
Breeding and exhibiting quality Smooth Coated Collies in Australia since 1975.
Emphasis is placed on Sound, Healthy breeding stock of correct Type, producing puppies suitable for the Conformation Ring, Dog Sport activities and Family Companions.
40+ Show Champions have been bred by this Kennel, using the best of bloodlines from around the world.
Specialising in Smooth Collies, but Rough Collie puppies are sometimes also available. All puppies go to their new homes with all relevant paperwork, including an 'Eye Certificate', Health Records, Breed information sheet and detailed information on feeding and grooming your new puppy.
We are a small home based kennel located in South Western Victoria, that breed the occasional litter, focusing on health and temperament.
We occasionally have Roughs and Smooths available in all Colours, being Sable, Tri and Merle.
We ourselves are actively involved in various dog sports and showing with our own collies.
First established in the UK in the early 1970's we pride ourselves in producing sound healthy puppies who excel in all disciplines from the show ring to tracking, agility and assistance dogs, but primarily as well adjusted and loved family members.
Our English import Rudi (Blamorder Be Your Valentino IMP UK) is now very well settled with us and has sired several litters producing some lovely youngsters, very sound with outstanding temperaments proving themselves in the show ring and as assistance dogs. His first grandchildren were born in early 2023 and will soon be seen in both showrings and sporting arenas. We hope to have another litter of his grandchildren later this year.
All our puppies are eye screened, regularly wormed, vaccinated and have had hours of love and attention as well as a full DNA profile for the breeding stock. We are happy to do specific early training for those who wish to do dog sports.

We have had the privilege of owning both smooth and rough collies for many years.
We currently have two beautiful, tri girls and an extremely handsome smooth blue merle boy. Shadow is available at stud and has been DNA checked with a CLEAR for the following; DM, CEA, PRA, Grey Collie Syndrome and Von Willebrands Disease. They are a joy to own and enjoy taking us for long walks along country tracks.
While we at Sunshard do breed the occasional litter focusing on health, temperament, and type our main focus is trialling in the performance ring. For this reason we rarely have puppies.
When we do have puppies they are bred and raised with performance sports in mind. They are socialised and receive enrichment from birth and we offer support and assistance to our puppy people whenever it is required and we always love to hear how they are going. Our dogs are housed and raised in the home enviroment.
All our dogs are hip and elbow scored and DNA tested for CEA, MRD1 and DM.
