Appearance

The Dalmatian is a spotted dog –with either dense black or liver spots on a dense white background. They are a medium sized dog that is easily trained and they make a wonderful family pet.

History

Dalmatians are an old breed – but their actual history is not certain.
Supposed to have originated from the country of Dalmatia, facts are not certain.

Temperament

Dalmatians are even-tempered dogs of good demeanor. They are not a guard dog, but want to be a member of the family. They are good with children.

Care / Grooming

Dalmatians require a regular brush and nail trimming – and a bath once a month or so. They are a clean dog that is easily cared for.

Health

Dalmatians are generally a healthy breed – with many of the past genetic problems being bred out by conscientious breeders. Dalmatians can suffer from stone forming problems later in life, and arthritic problems in their joints as they age.
Dalmatians need to be kept trim and in good physical form to ensure that they are a healthy part of the family for many years. A daily walk will help to ensure that they stay in good trim, and they should not be allowed to get fat.
