The Pyrenean Mastiff

Appearance

The Pyrenean Mastiff is a giant white fluffy dog. It can have patches of medium grey, gold, brown, brindle and in cases red brown.

History

Pyrenean Mastiff were used for sheep and farm protection from wolves, bears and thieves. Steady reliable temperament but a boisterous dog full of life and vigor. A mastiff but needing much more brain activity and mental stimulation and exercise than the other mastiff breeds.

Temperament

The Pyrenean Mastiff is friendly to all humans. These dogs are used with great success in the Victorian Department of Primary Industries school education program.

Care / Grooming

Pyrenean Mastiffs need regular brushing twice weekly and will molt annually.

Health

The Pyrenean Mastiff is generally very sound and healthy for a giant breed. Even so care must still be taken to avoid excessive over feeding, over exercising or rough play as inury may damage the puppy during the growing stages.
