Appearance

Long backed, low to ground, originally docked tail but some countries have now banned this. A longer head with dropped ears and a fall of hair from between the eyes down to the nose. Can have colour on the head and ears (Badger, Blue, Tan or Yellow) but the rest of the dog must be pure white.

History

Bred in Wales by Captain John Edwards to go to ground into a Badger Set and bark so that the farmers could dig down and get the badger. Supposedly from the Corgi, the West Highland White Terrier, the Wire Fox Terrier, the Dandie Dinmont and the now extinct English White Miniature Bull Terrier

Temperament

Known as the clown of the dog world. They are very loving dogs and very good with children. The males are often aggressive to other males. A bit stubborn at times

Care / Grooming

The show dog is hand stripped but the pet Sealyham usually is clipped off by a professional groomer. Needs brushing in between grooms and should be groomed about every 8 weeks.

Health

The Sealyham usually keeps good health but Lens Luxation is a problem in the USA and a few other countries. Back problems can occur as with any long backed breed with shorter legs, but it is rare.
