Ginnette grew up with a terrier mix and started exhibiting Australian Silky Terriers in 1989. She was mentored by a breeder who started in the breed in the 1950’s. In the Barrian kennel she gained a sound foundation in breeding processes, grooming, training and understanding pedigrees.
In 1996 Ginnette commenced showing Cairn Terriers and the move to the Terrier ring cemented her love of this feisty and intelligent group of dogs. Her EMERALDCITY Cairn Terrier kennel began in 1999 and she has bred multiple Best In Show winners and Supreme Champions. Ginnette has also exhibited Norwich and Skye Terriers, and handled Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, Jack Russell Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
Ginnette has handled cairn terriers at Crufts and attended dog shows in countries all over the world, including the famous Montgomery Terrier specialty. She has held executive positions in Specialist and All Breeds dog clubs, and continues as Secretary of the Cairn Terrier Club of New South Wales (one of only two cairn clubs in Australia).
Her main focus is breeding cairn terriers and accordingly, Ginnette gained her licence to judge the breed in 2011. She decided to extend her knowledge by gaining her full terrier judging licence in 2017, and her Toy judging licence in 2024. Whilst her husband, Peter Miller, judges five groups and is studying more, Ginnette has chosen to focus on the two groups that she has had personal involvement with. Ginnette also enjoys judging Junior Handler competitions, and has mentored a number of new exhibitors and breeders.
Ginnette has judged in Australia at All Breeds and Terrier specialty shows, and internationally in USA x 3, New Zealand x 2, Finland, the Czech Republic and the UK.
Highlights include:
• Judging cairn terriers in Finland, the highest single breed entry at the All Breeds show with thousands entered. The cairns were of such high quality.
• Judging Best In Show at the Desert Empire Terrier Club of Southern California (USA), the quality of Terriers was superb.
• Judging Best In Group for Toys at the Kennel Club of Palm Springs (USA) where there was a wonderful lineup of Toys, and a great experience.
• Judging the two 100 year anniversary shows for the Terrier Club of the Czech republic, with an exciting mix of terriers including 68 Border Terriers to critique.
• Judging her own breed in their country of origin – UK – at the prestigious Richmond Kennel Club Championship show.
