Judge Profile

Judge Name : Miss Cynthia Burton (QLD)

I can not remember a time growing up that dogs did not form a significant part of my family. When I was sixteen I encountered a Rhodesian Ridgeback at a football game and determined that this was the breed for me.

My first RR ‘Zuki’ was purchased in 1977 and with her I developed a passion for obedience work; a passion that was solidified with my next girl ‘Sharka’ (Outspanner Bufalo Gal) is still the only RR to this time to have won a National Obedience title (All Breeds) taking out 1st in Novice Bitch in 1992.

For many years I was strongly involved in the obedience world as President of the Redlands Dog Obedience Club Inc and Secretary of the Combined Obedience Clubs of South-East Qld.
After purchasing Bearstar Ko from Sioux Ryan in 1992 I extended my canine activities into the show and breeding world. Ko well and truly exceeded all expectations gaining his Australian Champion title in 1993 and making history as Australia’s first Grand Champion awardee in 1996.

Gr Ch Bearstar Ko CD FC ROM achieved multiple Best in Show awards at Specialty level and multiple Runner Up BIS at All Breed and Hound Club shows. He has produced over 30 show champions with titled progeny throughout the world and even though it is approaching ten years since his passing he still holds the honour of being Australia’s most successful sire.

My first Starridge litter, sired by Ko over multi Best in Show winner Gr Ch Bearstar Chilean Willow ROM, in 1995 produced the first of Starridge’s homebred 25 show Champions holding Australian, New Zealand, Malaysian, American and International titles. Among these are Best in Show, Best in Specialty show, Hound of the Year winners and three Grand Champions. Starridge dogs have also featured in lure coursing with Best in Field and Field Champion titles.

While producing an average of one litter a year I strongly believe in genetic diversity and have promoted that belief through the import and use of semen from Sweden, New Zealand and America. My latest import however came in a crate rather than a bottle being Ch Pupukearidge Kealohi (Imp USA).

In 2001 I commenced as a Trainee judge for Group 4 (Hounds) and was elevated to Championship Show level in 2003. In addition to judging at Hound group specialty and All Breed shows I have officiated at RR Specialty shows in Australia and Sweden. I was also honoured to judge the Hound Club of Qld’s Hound of the Year competition.

I joined the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Queensland in 1991 and have held executive positions including President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer over the years. I am currently President of the National Rhodesian Ridgeback Council of Australia.
