Our Beginnings - We are a small dedicated kennel located in Weipa, Far North Queensland, Australia. We started in Central Queensland and travelled to NQ and FNQ for shows until we moved to NQ and now FNQ. Mahelu is all about "Quality not Quantity" this is what we have strived for since starting in this breed in the 1994.
Our Kennel - Our prefix is derived from the names of our 3 sons. Mahelu Labrador Retrievers focus on quality, soundness and type, but most of all the importance of a true Labrador temperament, drive and willingness to please. All our dogs are health tested.
Our Labradors - Are part of our family, they live in our house, join us on camping adventures & holidays. We breed for ourselves first, this means we only breed to introduce a new member into our family. The other puppies in the litter are destined to become a loyal loving Labrador in your home.
Our Dog Sports - Has included Obedience, Endurance Test, and Agility, but mainly Conformation Showing. We have had the pleasure of guiding many dogs to their Australian Championship title, whether they were our own dogs or loved by others.

I am proud to have taken over the Sykesville Kennel name after the passing of my grandfather, who established this kennel name in the late 1970 early 80s. We are new Labrador breeders, and we are excited to announce our first litter with Amber. Amber is a lovely yellow Labrador with beautiful faithful nature and temperament and is our family dog. She has been mated with a Fox Red Lab also with a lovely temperament and nature. We believe that their pups will be wonderful family pets.
Ambers’ pups will all be yellow with a variation from cream to fox red or a mix of both and they are due at the end of April 2023 and will be ready for their family homes at 8 weeks old.
